Doin' It Right by Hilton Ruiz

Produced by Steve Snyder (1990 BMG Records)

Hilton Ruiz is a brilliant pianist with incredible dexterity and lots of soul. I had the good fortune to see him live at Ronnie Scott's in London around 1990. The guy blew the place apart! This album gives a sample of what Hilton Ruiz was performing at the time although the album is less latin in flavor. The blistering title track is absolutely fantastic. The percussion by Steve Barrios and Daniel Ponce is excellent. Hilton's playing on this track is pure bravado and its a joy to listen to. The rest of the album pales in comparison but Ruiz's mastery of his instrument is ever present.

Recorded 9, 10 and 11, 1989 at Van Gelder Recording Studio, New Jersey.

I really love the song at the end called "The Blessing". Does it say on the LP cover who wrote it?

The Blessing is a Hilton Ruiz composition.
